Rubrics!
Just what is a
rubric? Are they really
helpful? How do you create a
rubric? Who creates a rubric?
What do they do? In all hands-on projects and inquiry-based
learning, rubrics are essential for the understanding of the expectations of
how to achieve
a higher outcome. They are guidelines and guideposts that explain what
is expected for higher learning. They
can be created by the students themselves, by the teacher, and by the
students and the teacher together as partners.
They enhance learning by allowing genuine student input into the
process of self assessment and engage students in honest comparative
critical thinking. Not only do
students analyze the projects according to their own self-made rubric but
get to reevaluate the initial criteria itself thereby gaining a deeper
insight into the learning process and giving rise to higher expectations.
This half -day seminar will not only introduce you to rubrics but get you to
actually create one. Recommended
for teachers, administrators, and for parents and students.
