How do you study? Do you have a quiet, safe place to concentrate? Any interruptions? How do you memorize? Do you know about mnemonics? What is an acronym? Do you use visualizations? Can chewing gum help you remember? Can scheduling meaningful breaks really help you remember? Do you work to your strengths?
Word games, number lists, kinesthetic learning, sound utilization, viewpoints, these are just some of the means to remembering data and concepts. Do you know any of these? You probably do but don’t recognize them as such. These study skills and others are invaluable in coping with the need to remember and synthesis the increasing volume and complexity of high level information and concepts you need in school today. I will introduce you to some simple but very effective cognitive skills that will not only shorten your learning time but also increase your functional memory and deepen your understanding of the materials you are presently learning. Skills that are proven to be more effective than all the repetitious memorization and tedious note taking you could ever do. Isn’t it time to work smarter not harder?
